100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>My son is in a Early Head Start classroom that serves children 6 weeks to 3 years.\u00a0 He has 3 awesome teachers.\u00a0 His teacher has made several photo books for the kids this year: each of kid in a different hat, the cars they come to school in, etc.\u00a0 I decided I wanted to make one for them, too.\u00a0 Then I thought it would make a great tutorial for the one other crafter who reads my blog.<\/p>\n<p>Materials:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>digital photos of single, or mostly one, color items<\/li>\n<li>colored printer paper<\/li>\n<li>adhesive<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Scotch-TL901-Thermal-Laminator-roller\/dp\/B0010JEJPC\">laminator<\/a>, I bought it just for this project!<\/li>\n<li>hole punch, single or 3-hole<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Binder-Ring-50-per-box\/dp\/B000J3GCVO\">binder rings<\/a><\/li>\n<li>collage making software, I used <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shapecollage.com\/\">Shape Collage<\/a>, but you could do it in Photoshop or even a word processor<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I took pictures of items all over my son&#8217;s classroom.\u00a0 Toys, furniture, bags&#8230;<br \/>\nThen I cropped the pictures, in Photoshop, down to just the object size, but  left the background.\u00a0 **They are only squares here because they are thumbnail images.**<\/p>\n<p><a played around until I liked it.\u00a0 Shape Collage was really easy to figure out how to use and once I paid for registration I could export .psd files that I could play with in PhotoShop.\u00a0 I was able to move, rotate, and resize the pictures in the collage.\u00a0 I could also add the color name in Photoshop.\u00a0 I chose a fun, but easy to read font and added a black stroke.\u00a0 **In PhotoShop Elements you must add a style (drop shadow, outer glow, etc&#8230;) and then turn it off and turn on stroke.**<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/strathconn.com\/lady\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/purple.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-697\" title=\"purple\" src=\"http:\/\/strathconn.com\/lady\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/purple-300x194.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"194\" (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When I was done editing them I saved them as photo size jpgs and printed them through my favorite big box store.<\/p>\n<p>I decided I wanted the book to be bigger than a photo.\u00a0 The laminating sleeves I bought fit 5&#8243; x 7&#8243; paper so I trimmed colored paper to that size and used adhesive tabs to glue the pictures on.\u00a0 **I left a little more room at the top for hole punching.**<\/p>\n<p>Then I got to bust out my new laminator.\u00a0 It was pretty cool.\u00a0 I centered the pages in the laminating sleeve and sent it through the machine.\u00a0 It came out really hot, but was stiff and sealed just right.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/strathconn.com\/lady\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/IMG_2669.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-745 alignnone\" title=\"IMG_2669\" src=\"http:\/\/strathconn.com\/lady\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/IMG_2669-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/strathconn.com\/lady\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/IMG_2668.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-744\" title=\"IMG_2668\" src=\"http:\/\/strathconn.com\/lady\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/IMG_2668-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/strathconn.com\/lady\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/IMG_2667.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-743\" title=\"IMG_2667\" src=\"http:\/\/strathconn.com\/lady\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/IMG_2667-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I punched 2 holes in the top and then stuck binder rings though them.\u00a0 And then didn&#8217;t take any pictures of the book.<\/p>\n<p>So far, the kids are fighting over it, so I am glad I printed a second copy of the pictures.<\/p>\n<p>Lessons learned:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>tell people what you are doing so they don&#8217;t think you are taking creepy pictures of the kids<\/li>\n<li>objects don&#8217;t always photograph in their true color<\/li>\n<li>make your shape collage 4&#8243; by 6&#8243; not 5.5&#8243; x 8.5&#8243; so the sides don&#8217;t get cut off when you print the pictures (I started with a different idea)<\/li>\n<li>toddlers are very concrete -they expect books to open on the left, not the top, on the other hand, this shows they are learning concepts of print<\/li>\n<li>kids love books about
