I love that.  It is so nice to drive on the interstate (91 and 89) and not be faced with advertising every 10 feet.  It is so obvious when you cross over into New York or Mass.<\/li>\n<li> <em>John Deere was born in Rutland, Vermont.<\/em> Who knew?<\/li>\n<li><em>Montpelier is the smallest state capital. <\/em>It isn&#8217;t really a very exciting town either.<\/li>\n<li><em>Also, Montpelier is the only state capital without a McDonalds. <\/em> What a claim to fame!<\/li>\n<li><em>The state tree is the Sugar Maple.<\/em>  Yummy.<\/li>\n<li><em>Brigham Young and Joseph Smith were both born in Vermont. <\/em> So, Vermont caused Mormonism.<\/li>\n<li><em>The first postage stamp issued in the US was made in Brattleboro, Vermont, in 1846. <\/em> I don&#8217;t have a pithy comment for this one.<\/li>\n<li><em>On July 2, 1777, Vermont became the first state to abolish slavery. <\/em> How does that explain our nearly complete lack of blacks?<\/li>\n<li><em>Vermont was, at various times, claimed by both New Hampshire and New York.<\/em>\u00a0 And now?\u00a0 Everyone thinks we are a city in Massachusetts.<\/li>\n<li><em>Vermont is the largest producer of maple syrup in the                        U.S., producing over 500,000 gallons a year.\u00a0<\/em> I will only eat real maple syrup.\u00a0 My wedding cake was maple flavored and the wedding favor was maple candy.<\/li>\n<li><em>Until recently, the only way a Vermonter could get a                        photo driver&#8217;s license was to drive to Montpelier.<\/em>\u00a0 Seriously, my permit (1992) was a thin piece of plastic coated paper.\u00a0 Only in the last 10 years could you get a photo license locally.<\/li>\n<li>Vermont was the first state admitted to the union after                        the first 13 colonies.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1791\" title=\"1791\">1791<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vermont\" title=\"Vermont\">Vermont<\/a> is admitted as the 14th <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/U.S._state\" title=\"U.S. state\">U.S. state<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vermont does not allow billboard advertising.
