Peep Gallery

My friend Allison submitted a Peep diorama to the Washington Post contest. They didn’t win, but were semi-finalists. You can vote for the best diorama on the website. This is what she had to say:

PICK ME! PICK ME!

Picture 3.pngOr, rather Heather’s, Anh’s, and my peeps – the Post has a new page where you can vote for your favorite peeps…see below. (For those of you who haven’t heard, we made a diorama using the not-so-tasty Easter treat and submitted it to the Post’s contest- we were finalists, but we didn’t win). With your help, we can win in the court of public opinion! So, log on a vote – for the Anna Nicole Peep-Daddy Trial, that is!

Please go and vote for her diorama. It is the one on the bottom right called “She’s My Peep”. You can also see them all large by clicking on the link at the top of that page. Her’s is #19. I also like #7, Say Anything: I gave her my heart, She gave me a Peep. I think #8, A Peep at Mardi Gras is very funny too.

Today as we sit here

T and I are applying labels to newsletters for our theater company (we don’t have a theater company, we are on the board of one).

Today was a regular day at school. The second graders went to the fourth grade Vermont Museum. There were 4 fourth graders acting as docents. They did a great job. Some of the projects were really good and some not so much. One was actually non-existant. I am working to clean up my rooms at school. I am not very organized, so it is a chore. We are having a site visit/school review something or other on the 25th and I want it to look nice in the lab.

We went to the gym and the co-op tonight. I like going to the co-op and buying things in bulk. We have these great little bags T’s cousin made that we can fill up with noodles, oatmeal, granola, you know. We have four bags and I didn’t stop until we filled all four. The co-op is more expensive, but things there are good.

I am still going *hack hack* but not as much. Love my Mucinex!

It’s time

I recently told my friend, Best Lady*, about this blog. I don’t know if she has stopped bye yet, but she said she would. She was also a little annoyed I hadn’t told her about it yet. Hi hon!

She told us tonight she is going to have an important conversation with her boyfriend, Mr. Director.

They have been together, two years I think. He was in a relationship when they met, but it was ending. It has been good and it has been stormy. He has a temper and is very high strung. He often thinks he knows more than he does, is smarter than he is, and is always right. He’s not really a blowhard or know-it-all, but it can be very difficult to be around him. She is starting to realize that this relationship isn’t going to go where she wants. She has given a lot to him, and doesn’t always get in return. A few of us have noticed the tension lately (since fall) and she hasn’t seemed happy.

There is so much more to this story than I can write here, but I am so concerned about how this is all going to end up. I am waiting to see what she needs. I think the hardest part is how to keep his friendship. She is worried about him too. He has grown very close to her family and most of his friends were hers first. She doesn’t want to take anything from him, but she can’t sacrifice herself anymore (do you hear that?).

Best of luck BL. We are both behind you. You stood up for us, and we will stand up for you.

*When we got married my closest friend was getting divorced, so she was neither maid nor matron. So I decided if T could have a Best Man, I would have a Best Lady.

Sunday night blues

Watching SNL and eating leftovers. Easter weekend was pretty good. We went to T’s grandma’s in Schenectady. His mom and one cousin were there. Saturday we dyed eggs and went for a walk. It was pretty cold and windy and when we got back I coughed a lot. We had a great dinner with MIL’s best friend. MIL and T are vegetarians, so we don’t focus our meals around meat. MIL makes something called Good Earth with brown rice, broccoli, water chesnuts, mushrooms cashews, and cheese. We also had asparagus, ham, and awesome mashed potatoes (thanks cousin M). After dinner we had the best strawberry shortcake ever! Bisquick biscuits, strawberries, and homemade whipped cream with whipping cream and maple syrup. It was sweet and yummy and delish! We played 2 rounds of cards and I coughed my way through.

This morning we had an Easter egg hunt (yes, 4 adults: 30, 30, 66, and 97) and ate candy for hours. We did the puzzles in the newspaper and just chatted. Lunch was leftovers and 2 more games of cards. I nearly threw up from coughing, but I made it through. Our drive home was snowy and we even had to take a detour because of a major fire.

Altogether, Easter weekend was steller. I will probably post some pictures later.

Sunday night blues

T and I are catching up on our NetFlix. We have had Syriana, In America, and Jeeves and Wooster for far too long to make out membership worth it. We finally finished the fourth season of Jeeves and Wooster. Next up on my MIL’s list is a movie, but I don’t know what. Something old I bet. We are now watching Syriana, but I am having trouble following it.

Yesterday we helped our friend move from the house he lived in to his own apartment. It is a cute three room place in an old building. Everything has been updated though, so while it had that old charm, it doesn’t feel old. It is on the third floor (43 steps) and I coughed for 5 minutes after my first trip up. I ended up the door holder and I worked on a bib while I guarded the open van. When everything was in I went with my friend, her mom, and her sister to get fabric for a dress for the sister. My friend’s brother is getting married this summer and sister needs a dress. We also went to Target. Fun fun! We went to Margaritas in the evening with another couple and had a really nice time.

Friday night we just hung out at home. I don’t even remember it. Oh, but I went to Weight Watchers on Saturday morning and was up a bit. Bummer.

Starting GOTR tomorrow, let’s hope I am ready.

Finally Friday

My friend with the yellow baby is going home from the hospital now. I just talked to her and she is really happy to be going home. I dropped the mac & cheese off on my way home from work and her husband was just leaving to get them.

I am really tired of coughing. I have been hacking so bad I leaked a little. This is not good for a girl who has never had a baby.

Eh…I don’t really feel like writing any more. It has been a hell of a week and I am ready for it to be over.

Thurday Thoughts

Remember when I said I was going to try to post more. Yeah, so then I got this freakin’ cold and I haven’t been in the mood to do anything. I am feeling better. As better as you can feel with only one working nostril and a hacking cough.

My friend and her new baby are at the hospital with jaundice. Mom is/was pretty freaked out. She was very upset at having to sit there next to her crying baby and not be able to hold her and comfort her. I wanted to be able to visit when she was born *hack hack** but I felt it best to wait. Now I am going to wait a little longer. I made them mac & cheese last night, but I won’t take it until tomorrow when they are home.

I start Girls on the Run on Monday. I met with my new co-coach today. She has never coached before and is not connected to my school, so she is kind of nervous. Which is interesting, because she is very confident. We were at the high school at the same time, elementary too is seems, but we didn’t really know each other. I think it will be a good season. I will keep you posted.

Now I am off to pottery. Sometime I am going to write about my pottery teacher. New coach (I need a name for her) and I were talking about how she (pottery teacher) is one of the nicest people we have ever known.

Spring Reading Thing

SRTside.jpgI am joining Callapidder Day‘s Spring Reading Thing. I am a little behind in starting, but I am ready! I only just started Son of a Witch, so it will be my first book. I am not one who can read a whole bunch of books at a time. I will pick up my first non-fiction when I am done with Liir.

For the Spring Reading Thing I am going to read 5 fiction, 3 non-fiction, and 5 DCF books. (I am not at home making this list, so I will update it later.) Summaries from Amazon listings.

Fiction

1. Son of a Witch by Gregory Maguire – Son picks up where Maguires highly successful Wicked (HarperCollins, 1995) left off, with the death of Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West.

2. Mirror, Mirror by Gregory Maguire – A dark and vivid retelling of Snow White transposed to the Italy of the Borgias. Lucrezia is the evil stepmother and five-year-old Bianca de Nevada grows into the role of Snow White.

3. Eldest by Chris Paolini – Surpassing its popular prequel Eragon, this second volume in the Inheritance trilogy shows growing maturity and skill on the part of its very young author, who was only seventeen when the first volume was published in 2003. The story is solidly in the tradition (some might say derivative) of the classic heroic quest fantasy, with the predictable cast of dwarves, elves, and dragons–but also including some imaginatively creepy creatures of evil.

4.

5.

Non-Fiction

1. Shakespeare: The Biography by Peter Ackroyd – Describing himself as a Shakespeare enthusiast instead of an expert, Ackroyd focuses on the bard as an extraordinarily talented theater professional rather than rhapsodizing about the intricacies of the man’s genius. He interweaves Shakespeare’s life story with England’s dramatic history and the fascinating world of the emerging Elizabethan theater.

2.

3.

DCF

full list

1. Hattie Big Sky by Larson, Kirby – lone in the world, teen-aged Hattie is driven to prove up on her uncle’s homesteading claim.

2. Escape! The Story of the Great Houdini by Fleischman, Sid – Here are the stories of how a knockabout kid named Ehrich Weiss, the son of an impoverished rabbi, presto-changoed himself into the legendary Harry Houdini.

3. Bread and Roses, too by Katherine Paterson – Paterson has drawn upon the facts of the famous 1912 Bread and Roses strike in the mills of Lawrence, MA, and the sympathetic response of the citizens of Barre, VT, to tell the story of two children enmeshed in complex events.

4. Gossamer by Lois Lowry – Fantasy is gossamer in this tale of memory’s role in bestowing dreams and inflicting nightmares.

5. Alabama Moon by Watt Key – oon, 10, has spent most of his life in a camouflaged shelter in the forest with his father, a Vietnam veteran who distrusts people and the government. Pap has educated him in both academics and survival skills. His life suddenly changes when the land is sold to a lawyer and his father dies.

Sunday night blues

Sunday night is always the hardest. You have had a great weekend, but now it is the end, time to start thinking about the week.

The alarm went off at 6, but I didn’t really wake up till the phone rang at 9. It was my friend calling to give me news about the baby. She was born Saturday night at 7 and she is 9 pounds with lots of dark hair. I am still working on bibs for her. I think she will have 4 or 5.

We got an invitation to a wedding this weekend. A friend from high school is marrying a guy from our HS class. They have been together almost since we graduated (1994) and are expecting a baby in June. It is the second weekend of my spring break so we are planning to go down to Florida for it. It is hard to get tickets though, since everyone wants to have vacation then in Florida.

Our day yesterday was great. Today was lazy. I tried to install a scanner we have had sitting around for a few months onto my laptop, but nothing is working. T has been playing with it for hours, while I played Lego Star Wars on his computer. It is a pretty fun game.

Not much coming up this week, so we will see what comes.
