30 Tiny Moments

Inspired by Amanda Soule and her little project to capture the little moments of daily life for 30 days, I have created this group so the rest of us can stop and appreciate the now. Do not worry about perfect photography or photoshopping imperfections (though you certainly can, you perfectionist, you). These photos are a collective memorandum to the tiny moments that so quickly escape us. They don't need to be perfect, just full of whatever you want to remember. First blogged here if you'd like more of the back story.

Atrocious Apostrophe's

From Dave Barry's "Tips for Writer's":

Dear Mister Language Person: What is the purpose of the apostrophe? Answer: The apostrophe is used mainly in hand-lettered small business signs to alert the reader than an "S" is coming up at the end of a word, as in: WE DO NOT EXCEPT PERSONAL CHECK'S, or: NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ITEM'S.
This group documents prominently-placed and egregious punctuation mistakes. Bonus points (redeemable for nothing at all) are awarded for finding examples with unintended, hilarious meanings. See also '"Quotation Mark" Abuse'.

Clever Church Signs

Driving around, you see some of the most intolerable puns, cleverest use of language restricted by space, and most poignant messages on church signs across America. I used to be annoyed by these, but I cam to appreciate them for all the above qualities and now can be frequently spotted making sudden turns at awkward spots to get a picture of the newest clever sign I've found. Walking or driving can be very meditative. All of these signs take advantage of that fact in their own way. So go ahead--whether you love it or hate it, add the picture you took of a church sign along the walk of life!

Please copy the following to your comments: Foto vista en /Photo seen in GUSTO: Aging with Power, Wisdom, & Irreverence We're looking for positive, high quality, inspiring photographs of vital and interesting men and women age 50 & up. The intent is to move, inspire, and amuse. Please submit only your best work. We will delete any photo without notice that is not obviously on track, or in sync with the intent of the group. Don't be offended...just keep the rules in mind. Every so often, the administrators will select a few photos we feel best express the intent of the group...enjoy! Click on photos to see more details. Portrait

Here Portrait refers to any photo that depicts the face and/or adjacent part of the body, or the entire body, whether sharply recognizable ... or artsy, pushing the limits. Here, the face is paramount. Any other body part, by itself, doesn't qualify as a portrait. Finally, we all love animals and fish, but for chrissakes, please leave their photos in the living room. They don't fit here. Animal Farm is down thataway. Graph with growth statistics for Flickr group: Portrait

Spelling Mistakes

This group is about capturing spelling mistakes around the world that have made their way into the public eye. (Examples include labels, flyers and road signs.) Misplaced punctuation is also acceptable, for example, a sign reading "French Fry's", but really is most appropriate for Atrocious Apostrophe's. Purely bad grammar, while often funny, does not belong in this group. Post that in Ralph Wiggum's group, Me fail English? That's unpossible! instead. Note: This group focuses mainly on words in the English language, or at least attempts at English. ("Engrish" is accepted if it contains a spelling mistake.) If you post something in another language, please explain the spelling mistake in your comments or notes.
