Monday evening we played a game with the youth conference. They had to collect candy (in actuality, balloons) from four different spots around the front yard and then get it safely back to Brookfield. Of course, also in the front yard were Oompa loompas (the youth leaders, several of the young adults and a hoard of little kids) hoping to pop these balloons before they were safe at Brookfield. Tony and I stood out by the pier. I made the kids answer Isles of Shoals trivia for balloons. They do not know much about our islands. Other than getting bug bitten, it was kind of fun.

Our evening activity was Trivial Pursuit in the snack bar.

Tuesday brought blue skies and clouds. It also brought Robby’s schedule. We were invited to attend any or all the activities that Robby planned for his day.

I went to chapel Tuesday morning, so I had to scurry to catch up with the group as they left for the Billy Goat Walk.

Not having grown up on the island, I am not sure I have ever done a billy goat walk. You must walk around the entire island without stepping on grass. This means a lot of climbing up over, jumping across, and lowering oneself down. It took us about an hour to traverse the mile or so of rocky island, but it was worth it to say I had done it.

The afternoon included more crafty time. I worked on a new dishcloth and two baskets.

Tuesday evening was gorgeous, and I took pictures during the clam bake to prove it.

There was no end to the entertainment those boys (one big, two little) provided.

And of course, the evening ended, once again, with Trivial Pursuit in the snack bar.

Dear Mr. Sunshine,

Thank you for coming out to visit today. I feel like it has been a very long time since I have seen you and felt your warmth. Please feel free to stay around a while and visit.

There are so many things you have missed out on since you were gone. We have had too many snowstorms to count. We have had 4 snow days this year and will have to make one up in May or June. All this snow, sleet, and ice make me wanna say “Global warming – ha!”, but I guess that would be like saying “Round Earth, yeah right”. Damn those scientists always knowing stuff.

Oh…where was I? You missed the tree in our yard splitting and falling over. It was a lovely tree. I am very sad that it will have to be cut away. You may remember that one of the first years we lived in our house two of the branches fell off. It was such a perfect tree before and now… All that’s left is a big section over the driveway. I am afraid it will fall on a car. Please let it be warm so the snow will melt.

The crocuses are blooming in our garden. Thank you for bringing them light and nutrients so they may grow and bring signs of spring. I can see the daffodils popping out. I can’t wait to see more flowers blooming.

Next step, barefoot in the yard!
Lady S

Oh yeah, and I just got a phone call telling me that school is canceled tomorrow. We almost never get 2 days off in a row. Unfortunately, that means we have to go an extra day at the end of the year. A Monday. Who wants to end on a Monday?

February 1

We got out of school early today due to ice and snow. I was home by about 12:30. I spent most of the rest of the day in this position. I caught up on blogs, worked on some websites, and just sort of wasted time watching soaps and Monk.

The plow has gone by probably 800 times. The snow keeps falling off the roof. O is absolutely freaked out by the noise.

We just watched the season premiere of LOST. It was awesome. We still don’t know who the Oceanic 6 are, but now we know a 3rd. I can’t believe we might only get 6 episodes this season.

Today is our first snow day of the school year. We only get 3 (we got 5 when I was a kid), so I hope we don’t get a lot of snow this year.

I love snow days. Most of my coworkers say they would rather get out a day early at the end of the year, but I would rather have a surprise day off in the middle of the year. I have it in my mind that we are ending school on a certain day, so I am ready for that day. Another day at the end of the year doesn’t mean anything to me.

I have felt a cold coming on for the last few days, and while I have a load of Airborne in the house I have done nothing about it. I slept till 9:30 this morning and I feel so much better. I bet I would feel even better if I took a shower, but I am too lazy.

My day will probably include web time, putting away clothes, scrapbooking, and planning for school.
