6 Days left in March

Seriously, I thought this theme would be easy for me. I thought, heck, I make lists all the time, this will be simple. Nope. I have run out of ideas. I have resorted to stealing them from the web. And honestly, I had this great idea for a list over Easter weekend, but I was away from my computer and didn’t write it down.

Today’s list is:

Days left in March

  • Wednesday, March 26 I have decided to slack off today, so my kids are doing Type to Learn and Professor Fizzwizzle. After work I have to go to the grocery store. The Lord has rehearsal (did I mention he stepped into a part 4 days before opening night?) and I am going to watch TV and go to bed early.
  • Thursday, March 27 Today we have massages for Staff Appreciation Week. Mine is first thing in the morning. I hope the guy isn’t late. In the evening we have rehearsal. I am going to have to step in for T since he will be at the dress rehearsal for his other show. I hope bedtime comes early again.
  • Friday, March 28 Opening night. I won’t be going. I will be going both Saturdays, so I am making other plans tonight. I thought I might get my Sunday Schoolers to go to Hill’s play, but it is getting kind of late for that. Whatever I do, I am not over eating. I have to weigh in on Saturday.
  • Saturday, March 29 Today is m high school best friend’s birthday. She lives a couple hours a way and we don’t talk much any more. She and her husband split up this past year and she is totally starting over with 2 kids. I sent her flowers. I hope she likes them.
  • Sunday, March 30 I am planning to take my Sunday Schoolers to visit a different church today. We’ll see how it goes. I am trying to find ways to get them engaged and involved. Then I have rehearsal. Fortunately it is an afternoon rehearsal. Unfortunately, it is to accomidate my husband’s matinée.
  • Monday, March 31 Today I start Girls on the Run. I haven’t heard from my assistant coach; I don’t have that many registrations; I am totally not prepared. But since it is my 5th year, I should be okay. Then I will be late for an evening rehearsal. But I may get to go to bed early!

Cats are the sleepiest of all mammals. They spend 16 hours of each day sleeping.

Things I am really glad someone invented

There are some things we all take for granted, but someone had to invent them.

I am really glad for:

  1. Air conditioning I may live in a mostly cool climate, but it can get hot here. It gets especially hot in my computer lab. It took 7 years for me to convince someone that I needed a/c in there and it has made all the difference. I am actually in a better mood during the heat waves.
  2. Reach dental floss holders I hate flossing my teeth. It is not a lot of fun for me to stick my fingers in my mouth. I floss every day now. My flosser is pink and his is blue. We also have a purple one that neither of us has used.
  3. Indoor plumbing When it isn’t so hot that you need a/c, it is so cold that you need a down parka. I am thankful every day that I don’t have to go outside to p.
  4. DVR For someone who does a lot of plays, it is great to be able to record “appointment TV” like LOST and Grey’s and watch it later. I hated messing around with tapes and the DVR is awesome.
  5. iPods Our local radio station got bought last year and when they changed over the owners got rid of the 2 great DJs that had been there over 20 years. I hate the new morning guy, so I really only listen for the local news. The rest of the time I listen to NPR on my iPod in the car.

Thursday Things (on Friday morning)

Again!  Thursdays just seem to get s busy for me.  After school T and I had a meeting which we followed up with grocery shopping and dinner.  I went to pottery and did my glazing.  When I came home Best Lady was here and we talked until after 11.  It was a great visit, but I am so tired.

Today I am going on a field trip to the Indian House at Old Deerfield.  Should be a hoot.

It’s just one of those days

It started off innocently enough.  Although I haven’t been waking up until 6:30, instead of 6, but otherwise things were okay.

Then I got out to the car.  The door was open a little.  I was sure someone broke in and stole everything or that the battery was dead and it wouldn’t start, but no, everything looked good.

Got to the bottom of a hill and turned to look to see if anyone was coming.  My seatbelt lock and I couldn’t move forward, so I moved over and leaned in again.  And bonked my head on the closed window.

Got to school.  Parked.  Doing okay so far (only 10 minutes late).  Get out of the car and … what’s this?  My pants are wet?  Did I pee myself and not notice?  Nope, still gotta go to the bathroom (did I mention I left the house having to go?).  Touched the back of my pants where it is wet.  Damn, the rain got into the car and the seat was all wet.  Good thing for dark pants.

Before Literacy I got chastised by Miss Universe (the world revolves around her) for how I spoke to her in front of some kids yesterday.  She is just overly sensitive.  Although I have been snippy this week.  Today I apologized to one of my students in the same breath that I yelled at her.

Now I have a headache and my stomach hurts.  I just want to be done with the day.

Sun

Blue #1: It is getting colder by the minute.

Blue #2: I have too much to do and not enough time to do it.

Blue #3: The handle on my passenger door is broken.

Blue #4: The sky this morning.

This weekend was a long one.  MIL and I had a great time with our teddy bear photo shoot on Friday.  Yesterday, T and I took our time getting up, which was very relaxing.  Then in the afternoon and evening we went out to dinner and shopping.

This afternoon MIL and I worked on our scrapbook.  We got from them moving as children in 1949 to all their weddings in the 60s and 70s.  We also sorted through all the photos I took this weekend of the teddy bears.  MIL’s gift to Gramma this Christmas (besides the book) is personalized greeting cards for holidays and birthdays.  We are using photos of her teddy bears.  Our next section will be holiday based.

Random: Both my parents have brown eyes and I have blue eyes.  My husband is just the same.

I don’t really have anything else to say.

First Snow

Today was the first day it has snowed in Hometown. It was a very slow scary drive. As I rounded one corner I could see ahead of me a small black car was spinning around and around on the road. It came to settle in a small ditch between the road and the train tracks. It was all I could do to stop and not hit the car or go off the road myself. I was able to stop right in front of the car as a young woman got out. There were at least 3 small children in the car. I called out to her and she said they were all fine. I asked what I could do for her and she told me I could go on because a town truck was coming. I drove slowly the rest of the way and called the business near where she went off the road to see if someone could check on her. I was still shaking when I got to school.

Today went quickly. I was certainly ready for the end of the day. Vacation days are a gift to teachers. I will be ready to start again on Monday.

Tonight is another night of scrapbooking. We set a goal of finishing the “black” pages (pre-1949) before Thanksgiving. All we have to do on them is photo labeling, which will be easy. This has been a great project, giving me a good opportunity to spend time with my MIL. She has told me stories about growing up and being an adult in the opera.

Have a great Thanksgiving.

Random fact: I have lived in Vermont my whole life, but I don’t ski or ice skate.  In fact, I dislike the cold weather altogether.

Thoughts on Thursday (Friday morning)

Every year my school has a Thanksgiving dinner for the parents.  The kitchen staff and a lot of parent volunteers work really hard to make it great.  There are two seatings and since I had a class during the second seating I ate with the big kids.

Thursday nights I have pottery.   I am not that great, but it is a wonderful break in my week.  This session there are only 2 of us in the class.  Last night we use colored porcelain.  I am working on a website for my pottery studio.  Nothing much, but enough to share her class times, information about her, and events her studio will be showing at.

I got home late, so I didn’t get to watch Grey’s Anatomy.   That doesn’t mean I went to bed early though.  I am reading the His Dark Materials series.  I am a good way through The Subtle Knife, the second book, and loving everything about it.  We bought the omnibus edition and are trying to share it, but I am really selfish and grab it while he was in the shower.  Last night I did give it up to him though.

Random fact: I have been going to the same pottery studio since I was 7.  My dad did ceramics from the time he was 5 until he was in college.  He majored in ceramic engineering, since, as he says “There is in money in art.”  Of all the things he pushed me to do as a kid, this is the one that stuck.

Sunday Night Blues

Blue #1 I forgot to blog yesterday.

Blue #2 I nearly forgot today, so I ran downstairs in the nude to get my laptop.

Blue #3 We forgot to buy a nose hair trimmer for my husband.

Only 2 girls showed up for Sunday school today, so after we did our lesson we did lots of crafts.  First we colored with chalk on black paper to imitate “Out of the Dark” a picture we looked at in association with our lesson.  Then we made book mark ribbons for the bibles and hymnals in the sanctuary.  I think I have found a new way to make them stay in church (Sunday school is before church).

Random fact:  I have pictures of my high school classmates at different spots in my bible depending on how I felt about them.  A boy I was friends with, and then lost all respect for, is between the pages about the plagues.
