Easter Rooster and Key Lime Pie
By Knitty Cat | March 25, 2008
Tony’s gramma loves roosters. She has them all over her house. Last year I made her a yellow daffodil wash cloth for Mother’s Day and although she doesn’t use it, I thought I would make her another dishcloth. I found a pattern for Rodney the Rooster online and whipped it up. I had a few stitches on Friday and finished the rest on Saturday. I was knitting on the drive to her house, but I get easily car sick, so I had to take breaks. I hadn’t finished it yet when we got there so I kept knitting even as we visited. Each time someone asked I said, “Shhh…” and pointed to Gramma. When she asked, I just hid the cloth and pretended I didn’t know what she was talking about. We put it in her Easter basket the next day.

While we were there, Tony’s aunt put in a request for a green cloth. She didn’t get one at Christmas (stupid gift kerfluffle) so I was ready to make her one. I cast on while we were still at Gramma’s, but didn’t finish before they left. I mailed it to her when I was finished. I called it Key Lime Pie, because that’s what we have for Easter dessert, but then I realized that was the actual name of the yarn.

Easter cloths for Hannah
By Knitty Cat | March 21, 2008

My friend had a little girl, Sarah Elizabeth, last fall. I made her some washcloths in pinks and purples. Recently, Mom told me how much 3 year old Hannah loved the soft cloths, so I decided to make her some of her own. This time I went for bright springy colors.

Cross cloth
By Knitty Cat | February 27, 2008
I made this cloth for my friend Hillary. She went, with a group from our church, to El Salvador this February. She was the only youth from our church, although there were young people from the other church.
Hill is my Sunday School class helper and a fellow Shoaler. She is a great girl. She is a senior in High School looking at college and waiting to hear acceptances. She has gotten one, but it is her third choice. Selfishly I would like her to go to a college that is nearby, but I also want her to go to the best place for her.
I sketched this design out in my Stitch ‘n Bitch journal and then whipped it out. I only needed to TINK once, when I decided I wanted to change colors at a different point. I thought it came out very nicely.

Twins
By Knitty Cat | January 20, 2008
My childhood best friend had twins at the beginning of January. A boy and a girl. I wanted to celebrate this joy for her, even though we aren’t still close. I had lots of organic cotton left from my Christmas gifts, so I went with some simple striped washcloths.
When I finished the one for the girl I thought it looked like Neapolitan ice cream. And since she is Italian, I thought that was fitting. I used blue, green and brown for the boy and then racked my brain to think of a name. In the end the best I could come up with was Mediterranean Boy. So there we are. Now I just have to find a time to drop them off.

I GOT ONE!!
By Knitty Cat | January 18, 2008
I love the stuff Amy at Good to be Girl makes for knitting, but I never make it in time to order the thing I want. She makes a lot of stitch markers for knitting. They are so cute, although, I don’t actually make anything that needs them.
So the other day when I was reading her blog and she pointed to her new sock knitting bags I took a look. The pink and green one called out to me. It had a wrist loop and a clip to attach it to a belt loop or bag. It has a thread feed on the inside that snaps so you can take the project out before it is done. It is so pretty.
So I emailed Amy and asked to be the owner of bag #2 called Charm. She wrote back and said not only could I have it, but it would be okay if I knit dishcloths out of it instead of socks!! It came on Saturday (less than a week!) and is sooooo beautiful. I have been carrying it around with me all week. It has a pink, brown, and white DW dishcloth in it. It is big enough for two cotton balls and the needles don’t stick out. The drawstring keeps everything nicely inside.
Thank you Amy!

Christmas gifts
By Knitty Cat | December 22, 2007
For Christmas, I decided to make spa cloths for several relatives and friends. I used Lion Brand Yarn Nature’s Choice Organic Cotton.
This one is really big (60×40), but soft and lovely in Pistachio and Pecan.
This one is lovely and just the right size (50×40) in Strawberry and Macadamia.

I also finished one in Blueberry and Almond. I haven’t photographed it yet.
I am giving my sister some dishcloths I made for her this summer.

My sister’s “little guy” is getting a Knifty Knitter scarf and hat set.
My mom is supposed to get some dishcloths with “scrubby” yarn.
I was also going to make a few dim sum and egg rolls, but I don’t think that is going to happen.

Baby washcloths
By Knitty Cat | December 22, 2007
I gave my baby washcloth gifts today. Sarah Elizabeth got a set of 4 and Chloe got 3. I am really proud of how they turned out. I hope they are liked by the mommies and the babies. One of my coworkers saw Sarah’s in my classroom and touched them and squeezed them and told me how great they were. T took Chloe’s into work and her dad thought they were wonderful.
All the washcloths were made with Bernat Cottontots on size 9 needles.
Sarah’s were made with Very Berry, Strawberry, Grape Berry, and Pretty in Pink.

For Chloe’s I used Strawberry, Grape and Lemon Berry.

For little Alora
By Knitty Cat | December 1, 2007
A dear friend from high school and her husband (also a former classmate) had a baby this summer. She is 6 months old now (at least, I can’t remember when she was born), but I am just about ready to send her a collection of washcloths. I hope to send her a new one each year for her birthday or Christmas.
Some or all of these will be hers. A basket weave in Strawberry. A sun in Lemonberry. A flower in Lemonberry. A plain Grape cloth. A heart in Strawberry.

Baby washcloths
By Knitty Cat | November 5, 2007
I am elbow-deep in baby washcloths. I am several months late with gifts for Alora and nearly on time for Sarah. I am making little sets for each girl. When I am done with these I am going to make some baby bibs for Alyssa’s twins.
Yes, this is my first knitting post, and yes it is a pretty arbitrary way to start. But I need to start or it will never happen.
